As a player, Phil was a NCAA All-American at The College of New Jersey where he graduated with honors and a degree in Health and Exercise Science. He began his professional career as a trainer and strength and conditioning coach for Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania. After a few years there, Phil decided to return home to New Jersey in order to get married, shift his focus back on a career in tennis, and start his own business.
For more than ten years now, Phil has been developing tennis players from USTA Junior to collegiate and professional levels. He began as the tennis Pro and Coordinator of Summer Programs for the Westfield Tennis Club, as well as the Director of Junior Development at the Cranford Indoor Tennis Club. Then, Center Court Athletic Club in Chatham recruited him as its Director and charged him with hiring a staff and developing a state-of–the-art High Performance Tennis Program. It was during his tenure at Center Court that the USTA recognized Phil’s contribution and dedication to the sport of tennis, chose Center Court to be its Regional Training Center, and appointed Phil to Head Coach to manage its 10 and Under
programs. After successfully establishing these programs, Phil opted to leave Center Court to start his own P3 Tennis Academy at the Murray Hill Health & Racquet Club and Cranford Indoor Tennis Club.
Collectively, the P3 Tennis Academy staff of loyal professionals has contributed to the development of hundreds of tennis players, ranging from very young beginners to competitive USTA Sectional and National Juniors, as well as prominent collegiate players and touring professionals, and has produced over 30 National Champions, 15 Satellite Champions, 10 New Jersey State Champions, and numerous USTA Sectional Champions.
In 2014, Phil met Tim Mayotte and Lee Hurst and began personally working, training and coaching with them in New York. With similar philosophies, this collaboration quickly developed into a partnership which is now known as the MHS Tennis Academy. With a formal background and certifications in personal training, physiology, and strength and conditioning, Phil adds an important dimension to MHSTA’s total tennis training program
